Life Legacy
Janet Rae Peister, 76, of Cody, died Friday, August 17, 2012 at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
She was born in Nebraska August 9, 1936 to Roy and Ruth Gates, joining her sister Ruth Ann. She grew up in Plainview, Nebraska. She graduated from Plainview High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska. She was the president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, while attending the University, and remained a lifelong Cornhusker fan.
She met her future husband, Ron Peister, while she was student teaching. They were married December 20, 1958. Following their marriage they lived in Illinois while Ron attended graduate school. After he graduated they moved to Lexington, Nebraska where he got a job teaching and they started their family. They moved to Cody in August of 1961 when Ron got a job with Cody Public Schools.
Jan was active in the Cody community for many years. She was a Past President of the Cody Newcomers Club. She was also involved in Music Club, PEO and Christ Episcopal Church. She had many wonderful friends from her bridge club. Many women in the Cody area learned how to sew through the adult education classes she taught, and would continue to seek her advice through the years.
Jan is survived by daughters Jodi (Dennis) Allen of Billings, and Lynn Boyles of Florida, sister Ruth Landell, grandchildren Ron (Cyrina) Allen, Ryan (Heather Ostermiller) Allen, Samantha Boyles, George Boyles, great-granddaughter Raymie Allen, brother-in-law Paul (Elizabeth) Peister, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Ron. No memorial service is planned, but there will a brief graveside service at Riverside Cemetery on Wednesday, August 22 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, or the charity of your choice.
