Biography

Billye R. Georgen, age 86 of Cody, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at the West Park Hospital in Cody.
On July 2nd, 1926 a firecracker was ignited in Wichita Falls, Texas. Her name was Billye Ruth Zimmerman, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Billye Bob”. She was the only child of Bill and Ruth Zimmerman. Though she was born in Texas, Montana was where her life really began. She grew up in Lodge Grass and upon graduation she attended the University of Wyoming. At the university she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. It was there she met her husband, Leland “Lee” Georgen. They were married in 1948. After Billye and Lee’s graduation they taught school in Crow Agency and Hardin. In 1958 they moved with their two daughters to Cody, Wyoming. She taught 3rd grade at Sunset Elementary until her retirement from teaching in 1971.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, reading, crocheting and cross stitching. She was past president of Chapter AO, of the P.E.O. Sisterhood was a member of Jasmine Chapter No. 65, Order of the Eastern Star, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Stevens (David) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Karen Ballinger (Larry) of Cody. Granddaughters Carrie Kelly (Chris) of Plano, Texas and Jennie Stevens (fiancee Conner Larkin) of Dallas, Texas. Great grandchildren, Aidan and Abbey Kelly also of Plano. Brother-in-law Ken Georgen of Antioch, California and sister-in-law Ruth Atchison of Sheridan, Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, brother-in-law Bob Atchison, and sister-in-law Ruth Georgen.
Memorial services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Ballard Funeral Home with a burial at Riverside Cemetery.
