Biography

Basin, WY – Florence I.”Flo” Wilson, 84, formerly of Cody, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin, Wyoming.

Florence I. “Flo” Schlotfedt was born February 10, 1927 in Rock County, Minnesota. Her parents, Ira Herman and Frieda (Wagner) Schlotfeldt, moved to Alvord, Iowa a year or so after her birth. Flo completed her elementary school education in Alvord, as well as a year or two of high school. The family then moved to Doon, Iowa, where Flo graduated in 1944.

After high school, Flo moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa to live with her paternal aunt, Alleen Jacobs, and worked as a bookkeeper for Joyce Lumber Company. In 1947, Flo married Clifford “Cliff” Wilson and kept books for the bakery they owned. Their oldest children, Tom and Judith, were born in Rock Rapids.

They moved to Kingston, Minnesota in 1950 to take over Clifford’s brother Ed’s farm when Ed passed away. They farmed there until 1964, when they sold the farm and purchased Peterson’s General Store in Kingston. Flo kept books for both the farm and the store. Their third child, Jeffrey, was born while they were living in Kingston. In 1982, Cliff and Flo sold the store and began wintering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In the mid 1990s, they moved to Litchfield, Minnesota, continuing their winter trips to South Carolina until Cliff’s death in 1999. In 2008, Flo moved to Cody, Wyoming to be closer to her daughter.

Flo was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also worked with the local Red Cross.

Flo is survived by two sons, Thomas (Joan Eisenreich) Wilson of Kasota, Minnesota, Jeffrey (Sonja) Wilson of Racine, Wisconsin; a daughter, Judith (Dennis) Spargur of Cody, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Mark Wilson, JodiLynn Spargur, and John Spargur; and one great-grandson, Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff; and brothers, Dewain, Orville, Clifford, Virgil, and Donald; and a sister, Delores Fields.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 9, 2012, at one o'clock in the afternoon at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston, Minnesota.
