Biography

Cody, WY – Helen E. Wilson, 87, died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at her residence in Cody, WY.

Helen Elizabeth Grant, the daughter of Duncan Paul and Cora (Greenlee) Grant was born August 4, 1924 in Cheyenne, WY. She grew up on the family ranch in Richeau Hills and worked as a ranch hand throughout her childhood. Between home-schooling on the ranch and riding the bus to Wheatland, WY, Helen received her education, graduating from high school in 1943.

Helen went to California for a short time, and returned to Cheyenne, WY in 1948. At an Eagle’s New Year’s Eve Party of that year, she met Robert “Bob” Wilson. The couple were wed on November 4, 1949 in Cheyenne. Helen was employed at the Owl Inn and JC Penney in Cheyenne. They then moved to Saratoga, WY in 1960, where Bob ran a plumbing shop and Helen kept the books.

The couple moved to Cody, WY in 1972, where they owned and operated a sporting goods store until 1976. Helen then went to work for Pawnee Irrigation and Supply, where she worked as a bookkeeper for 17 years. She retired in 2001.

Helen was a an active member of Eastern Star, and received her 50-year pin in the Oddfellows. She was also a very successful gardener.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bob of Cody; a brother, Robert “Bob” Grant of Wheatland; nieces, Sandra (Richard) Dovey of Wheatland, Susan Juschka of Glendo, WY; nephews, Mike (Becky) Grant of Wheatland, Matthew (Susie) Grant of Casper, WY; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Verda.
